About the Point-in-Time Homeless Count

The Balance of State Continuum of Care (BoS CoC) is comprised of 152 of Georgia’s 159 counties. Given this broad geography, the BoS conducts a Sheltered Count every year and an Unsheltered Count every other year to provide this recurring snapshot. The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count occurs in the last ten (10) days of January each year.

The date of the next PIT Count is scheduled to be held Monday, January 26, 2026, when the BoS CoC will conduct both a sheltered and unsheltered count. For the sheltered count, the BoS surveys all its organizations and agencies providing housing assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness.

The Unsheltered Count requires a physical street count of individuals living in places not meant for human habitation, such as a street or sidewalk, park, or vehicle. Volunteers, working alongside organizations and agencies involved in this work, power the unsheltered count process.
