2023 CDBG-DR (January Tornadoes)
On January 12, 2023, Georgia was subjected to strong winds and thunderstorms which resulted in an onslaught of as many as 14 tornadoes and led to widespread power outages across Metro Atlanta and Central Georgia. This resulted in a Presidential disaster declaration allowing for federal assistance to be provided. In August 2023, the federal government awarded Georgia $12,595,000 in disaster recovery assistance to address the unmet recovery needs in the areas affected by these tornadoes.
Funds will be used for housing activities and will include mitigation measures to facilitate the long-term recovery and facilitate resilience against predictable future damage.
