Georgia Designated Federal Opportunity Zones
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025 made Opportunity Zones a permanent feature of the tax code and introduced significant updates. States were tasked with developing a methodology to select which census tracts they wanted to designate as OZs for the next 10 years. Each State was given the authority to designate up to 25% of their low-income census tracts as qualified opportunity zones. The State of Georgia's methodology utilized a combination of local nominations, a quantitative model to determine the tracts most likely to spur development, and existing statewide priorities. Of the eligible tracts, Georgia's nominations include nearly a 50/50 split between rural and metro areas.
