Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery Information Sessions

On January 7, 2025, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the allocation of nearly $12 billion in Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds.  The State of Georgia received funding in the amount of $265,726,000 to help recover from the impacts of disasters in 2023 and 2024, specifically Hurricane Idalia (DR-4738), Tropical Storm Debby (DR-4821), and Hurricane Helene (DR-4830). These funds were appropriated under Public Law 118-158, enacted on December 21, 2024.

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) will oversee the administration of the CDBG-DR funds.

CDBG-DR funds can be used for a variety of financial needs relating to the unmet needs for disaster recovery.  This includes long term recovery related to the restoration of housing, public infrastructure, and economic revitalization needs, because of Hurricane Idalia, Tropical Storm Debby, and Hurricane Helene.  In addition, some mitigation activities may be funded to assist communities with developing resilience against future storms.

To gain insight into community needs, DCA will be holding 10 “town hall” style information sessions. These sessions will be held in convenient locations across the state, targeting areas hardest hit by the 2023 and 2024 disasters.
