AmeriCorps

What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps is a national service program modeled after the “Peace Corps".   Much like the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps programs provide opportunities for individuals to commit to a year of service in organizations whose mission is to meet critical needs in local communities. Those who commit to serve are called “AmeriCorps Members”.  [Check out the video: "What is AmeriCorps?" under the Gallery tab above]

Joining an AmeriCorp Program

Each year, thousands of committed citizens join Georgia’s AmeriCorps programs.  Those who join are as diverse as the host organizations managing the programs. AmeriCorps Members must be a U.S. Citizen, have at least a high school diploma, demonstrate a commitment to serve, and pass a state and national background screening. Some programs require a college degree.
