DCA Emergency Housing Voucher Program to End June 30, 2026
Atlanta, GA. (January 16, 2026) – The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) announced today that the Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) program will end on June 30, 2026. Emergency Housing Vouchers are special vouchers established under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). DCA is one of more than 600 Public Housing Authorities across the nation that administer the EHV program.
HUD announced the final funding allocation for the EHV program in March 2025. DCA’s allocation funds Housing Assistance Payments (HAPs) for EHV though June 30, 2026. However, effective July 1, 2026, HAPs will stop, and the HAP contract between the landlord and DCA will terminate. Any ongoing relationship between the landlord and tenant (i.e. lease or tenancy agreement) will not involve DCA.
The Emergency Housing Voucher program is the only program impacted. DCA’s regular Housing Choice Voucher program and other special voucher programs are not affected by these changes.
If you are a resident with an Emergency Housing Voucher, or a property owner renting to an EHV participant, you may reach out to DCA with questions at 470-802-4707 or by emailing [email protected]. more information, including Frequently Asked Questions, please visit the DCA website.
