He previously served two terms on the city council of Union City. Williams is the second vice president of the Georgia Municipal Association and sits on the board of directors of the National League of Cities. He is an associate pastor at iTHRIVE Christian Church. Williams earned a bachelor’s degree from Lemoyne-Owen College.

He and his wife, Sharon, have one child and live in Union City.
